Chapter 10: How Can I Share My Food Secrets When I Can't Even Share My Fries?

Introduction:
Welcome to another insightful episode of the Dear Food Podcast, where we delve into Chapter 10 of Workbook 2, titled "How Can I Share My Food Secrets If I Can't Even Share My Fries?" Today, we're exploring the power tool of building your team. Join me, your host Julia Fikse, as we unravel the importance of community and support in the journey towards food freedom.

The Courage to Seek Help:
In the podcast, I shared a personal story about my hesitant return to a 12-step recovery meeting for food addiction. It was a pivotal moment, driven by a doctor's prescription and a last resort after a failed attempt years earlier. I vividly described the internal struggles and the metaphorical wounds inflicted by the relentless battle with unhealthy food habits.

The Power of Community:
Reflecting on that challenging time, I emphasized the crucial role of a support team. The story highlighted the unexpected encounter with an older woman in the meeting, whose wisdom resonated profoundly. "A meeting of one just doesn't get the job done. We need community," she asserted. The analogy drew parallels between our need for support and the divine concept of the Trinity, reinforcing the idea that even the Lord is we.

The Team Dynamic:
Drawing inspiration from my childhood love for baseball and the dynamics of a winning team, I drew parallels to our personal journeys. The reference to the movie "Moneyball" showcased the strategic selection of team members, emphasizing the importance of choosing allies who work together for the win.

Inviting the Ultimate Team Member:
The podcast stressed the foundational importance of inviting the ultimate team member – our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Quoting 1 Corinthians 3:11, I emphasized the significance of establishing a trusty cornerstone that can bear the weight of life's challenges and victories.

Choosing Safe People:
Recognizing the need for a diverse and supportive team, I outlined the qualities of safe people who contribute positively to our growth. The discussion referred to Bible verses from Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, guiding the audience in picking team members who listen without judgment, offer honest and kind feedback, and encourage without personal gain.

Taking Action:
To help listeners take practical steps, I introduced the Teams Tryouts Worksheet, a tool designed to assist in the thoughtful selection of team members. Encouraging immediate action, I stressed the importance of starting the journey toward food freedom by building a support team today.

Closing Prayer and Celebration:
The episode concluded with a heartfelt prayer, acknowledging the presence of supportive people in our lives and seeking guidance to build a community that fosters positive change. To celebrate the steps taken, I suggested a symbolic gesture—wearing a ball cap representing one's favorite team as a reminder of the collaborative effort needed for success.

Conclusion:
As we wrap up this episode, the overarching message is clear: we don't have to face our food struggles alone. Building a supportive team, starting with the ultimate teammate, Jesus Christ, is key to achieving food freedom. The journey may be challenging, but with the right allies, victory is within reach.
